Mindfulness Strategies
for Client and Self Care

Lesvos, Greece June 9th - June 16th, 2010

Workshop 18 hours

Only a few spots remaining. Deadline extended to May 30th, 2010!

You are invited to travel with us to the city of Mytilini, the third largest island in Greece, where your Lesvos
adventure begins. The accelerated pace of life and increasing demands on clinicians and clients today can
lead to burnout and compassion fatigue. The workshop will include both theory and practice to increase
your knowledge of more mindful behavior and how to incorporate various techniques into your daily activities
on the job and off to be more effective. By developing a stress management program that we can really
live by, we can share our wisdom with others by being a living example.

Both a surprise and a delight, the traditional architecture on Lesvos reflects the Islands unique rich mixture
of Greek, Roman, and Turkish influences. The buildings are commonly made from stone, the colors are of
the soft palette of the earth framed by the by the brilliant blue of the Aegean Sea..

The Workshop

This experiential workshop will examine how clinicians can optimize self care to become more resilient
and mindful change agents. This entails examining how we meet stressful events, cope with change,
codify our experiences, to prevent compassion fatigue. When we are overly extended or burnt out,
we may not see clients as they are, but as we are (feeling inside). We may not be truly present to
ourselves or others. This can lead to poor self-care, thought fusion, and a general lack of awareness.
Utilizing a combination of Mindfulness and ACT principles, we will develop an innovative self-care and
stress management program that can be used for clinicians and clients. This will include breath work,
meditation, progressive relaxation, guided imagery, self-hypnosis, movement, and strategies for self-renewal.
This approach belies an understanding of the relationship between the observing self, our core
values and committed action. In this program we will learn ways to quiet the mind, access our wise self,
and truly accept what is. To become more fully engaged, energized, compassionate and tuned in.

This program will be based on scientific research, theory, case studies and practical examples,
including the following topics:

  • Explore and internalize the neurochemistry of stress
  • Discuss and practice the 6 Core Principles of ACT
  • Harness the power of language and positive self-talk
  • Discuss Mindfulness and assess how to integrate more mindful thoughts and behaviors into daily life and practice
  • Assess and compare methods for increasing Resiliency
  • Create a stress management plan for increased overall wellness and burnout avoidance

This workshop is both didactic and experiential in nature and numbers are strictly limited. Open to all, this workshop will be especially rich for helping professionals, nurses, therapists, and teachers.
